Mentoring Helps Dayfold Develop New Business Strategy

Presentation and print company Dayfold has benefited from mentoring-based training from KJ Associates which has helped it manage a 36 percent growth in the last year.

Dayfold joint managing directors Les Abbott-Fryer and Michael Shier chose Ringwood-based managing development trainers KJ Associates to deliver training on issues such as time management and communication alongside a mentoring programme.

They had taken over the Verwood company as part of a management buyout in August last year and felt they needed to boost their management and business skills.

Michael Shier said: "We wanted a more mentoring-style of training to develop our potential as directors as the print and presentation industry is very fast-moving.

"We have undergone huge growth in the year which has thrown up a lot of issues on a monthly basis, and mentoring enables us to prepare for the issues of the day."

Regular meetings with Katie Jones of KJ has helped increase financial knowledge and skills, produced the company's new vision statement, mission statement and business strategy, created business plans at various levels and a detailed two-year business strategy which aims to sustain the current growth.

Michael said: "Katie Jones has accelerated our awareness and skills and ability to respond to the needs of the business - the opportunities to discuss key issues alongside training is very helpful.

"We want all our staff to understand our thinking and how we can take the company forward together - they are a critical part of that process.

"People are everything in a business and we feel that training is absolutely vital as a strategy. It was totally appropriate to start at director level and have also embarked on skills training programme at various levels for our staff."
